Case Study: Synthetic Grass Driving Range

Hudson Park Driving Range – Strathfield, NSW

What we provided

Project Snapshot

Strathfield Council identified the Hudson Park golf course as an under-utilised asset that was ripe for renewal. Beginning in November 2021, works were undertaken to transform Hudson Park into a thriving green space with recreation facilities open to all of the community.

Comprising water features, basketball courts, a maze and a host of other family-friendly features, the green space has become a thriving and beautiful parkland for all locals.

Preferred Turf was selected to deliver the synthetic turf component of the driving range, due to our professionalism and proven ability to deliver quality recreational synthetic grass spaces.

Challenges

Working amidst unpredictable weather conditions, the Preferred Turf team utilised special machinery to transport the necessary supplies across the large site, including loads of ACI dried sand and heavy rolls of turf and accessories.

In order to ensure wastage was minimised and to eliminate any unnecessary joins, our team had custom roll lengths specifically manufactured for this project.

How we helped

Our scope of work included levelling the driving range and installing the synthetic grass surface and the installation of multi-coloured bunkers and greens. The custom-manufactured large rolls allowed for highly accurate alignment of the turf sections, and fewer joins which could potentially affect the user experience of the driving range. An incredibly smooth surface was achieved which provides the perfect substrate for precision ball movement.

This modern and cutting-edge facility utilises over 13,500 square metres of our 30mm Hi-Density Premium synthetic turf. This synthetic grass was selected due to its reliable performance in landscaping applications, with the 30mm pile height providing an appropriate surface for the golf course application.

To add colour and vibrancy to the project, the green was interspersed with yellow bunkers and a blue ‘water hazard’, creating a fun and enjoyable space for locals to practice their golf swing. For these elements, we installed 18mm Multi-Sports Turf, a versatile synthetic grass ideal for a wide range of sporting applications.

This sporting facility is now a major attraction for the Strathfield community and Greater Sydney as a whole.
